It is through the reference of the linguistic expressions that one may come to know about the world or reality or ontology. It has been acknowledged that language does refer and the referential function of language is helpful to know about reality. However, the paradigm of reference and the of reference remains a bone of contention to the philosophers. Putnam the magical theory of reference.. According to Putnam, the magical theory of reference is a big default of reference. He, therefore, attempts to overcome the default through the analysis of the metaphor 'brains in a vat'.The main strategy of this paper is to exemplify the philosophical insight and significance of the metaphor 'brains in a vat' while solving the problem of reference.Item Open Access Ecofeminism: Debates and dimensions(All Orissa Philosophy Association, 2021) Padhi, LaxmikantaItem Open Access Amiobhusoner Nirbas : Udbastu bhabnar bhinnomatra (অমিয়ভূষণের নির্বাস : উদ্বাস্তু ভাবনার ভিন্নমাত্রা)(The Gouri Cultural and Educational Association, 2021) Mukhopadhyay (K.K. Microfinance is necessary for up-gradation of the lifestyle of the deprived section of society. Whereas CSR is necessary to make business houses more responsible towards society. This research evaluates the CSR values imparted by Microfinance Institutions (MFis) to society. For this, a total of223 samples were taken into this study and Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was carried out with the help of a statistical package i.e. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) to identify the underlying factors that determine CSR values such as Legal Responsibility (LEGR), Economic Responsibility (ECOR), Philanthropic Responsibility (PHTR) and Ethical Responsibility (ETHR). Later on path analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were performed with the help of Analysis of a Moment Structures (AMOS). The study results suggest that MFis are discharging CSR values such as Legal Responsibility (LEGR) and Ethical Responsibility (ETHR) more efficiently than Economy Responsibility (ECOR) and Philanthropy Responsibility (PHTR). The findings of the study will help the stakeholders of the society to evaluate the CSR value provided by MFis in the society. In addition, MFis will also be able to determine the deviation in their stated standard CSR value and the actual CSR value given to society.Item Open Access Spatio –Temporal Analysis of Changing Tribal Population Density, Concentration and Sex Composition in Jhargram District, West Bengal(University of North Bengal, 2022) Bera, Ananda Nanda; Roy, RanjanDemographical study helps us to know the changing pattern of population in any region over time and space. To understand changing pattern of population we must consider social, cultural and economic environment of any region. It is also closely related with population density, concentration and sex composition. . In India approximately 698 schedule tribes consists of 8.6% or 104 million of the total population (Ministry of Tribal Affairs, 2013). Newly form Jhargram district is one of the largest tribal concentrated district of West Bengal (April 4, 2017). According to 2011 census report 333848 tribal people was lived in Jha gram district out of total population 1135748. Six major tribal groups construct 29.37% tribal people of Jhargram district which was highest percentage of tribal people of in West Bengal (Census of India,2011). Jhargram is drought prone district and environmentally fragile also. It has two state boundary, on the East Singbhum district of Jharkhand state and on the south west by Orisha state. In this backdrop the study tries to focus on spatio-temporal change of tribal population density, tribal population concentration and tribal sex composition in the different blocks of Jhargram district. We are considering both dimension spatial and temporal change of tribal population in the different blocks of Jhargram district explicitly and implicitly. Population density is the concentration of people within a particular time and space. It is one of the finest tool with which all other demographic attributes are directly or indirectly associated. Population growth determines density distribution pattern and composition of population (Ghosh, 1985). It is one of the simplest methods to establish relationship between population and natural resources. K. Sita (1986) uses this tool to discuss about pattern of schedule tribe in Maharashtra in relation to population growth and distribution. We can use population data to quantify demographic information, evaluate relationship with ecosystem, human health, livability and infrastructure. Account of tribal population density may useful for understanding spatial aspects of demographic pattern as well as overall development of the tribal people. An attempt has been made to study of the spato-temporal pattern of tribal population density and sex composition in Jhargram district, to throw light on the decadal...Item Open Access A Study of Crop Combination Regions in Koch Bihar District of West Bengal by Applying Rafiullah’s Maximum Positive Deviation Method (1956)(University of North Bengal, 2022) Miah, Abdul Halim; Ranjan, RoyThe study of crop combinations comprises a significant view of agricultural geography as it gives a favourable principle of agricultural geography (Husain,2014). It is the experiment of the total percentage average area assumed by various crops in a given area in an agricultural year. The major economy in Koch Bihar district of West Bengal dependent on agriculture. There are various types of crops cultivated i.e., Paddy, Jute, Wheat, Jute, Potato, Oil seed, Tobacco and Sugarcane etc. So, there are requires a proper agricultural planning for agricultural development. In the present research paper, an effort has been created to delineate crop combination regions in the Koch Bihar district by applying Rafiullah’s maximum positive deviation method of 1956. The present research paper is entirely based on secondary data sources. A systematic approach has been applied for the study. The data has been collected from the various secondary sources. There are various crops produce throughout the year. Rafiullah’s method of crop combination shows that there are mainly three crop combination regions dominant in the Koch Bihar district. These regions having suitable well environmental conditions, irrigation facilities, plain land with adequate agricultural infrastructure, experienced low magnitude of crop diversification and vice versa.Item Open Access Determining Seasonal Pattern in Stream Water Quality: A Case Study of River Mahananda at Siliguri, West Bengal, India(Sardar patel Institute of Economic and Social Research, 2022) Paul, Rupak KumarThe objective of the present study is to recognize the seasonal pattern in water quality status of the stretch of river Mahananda at Siliguri Municipal Corporation of West Bengal. Monthly observations on 21 water quality parameters for the period between January, 20 IO and May, 2022 were used for resolving the present problem. The whole database was generated by West Bengal Pollution Control Board following the guideline of Central Pollution Control Board, Govt. of India. The Hierarchical Cluster Analysis was applied to determine the seasonality while Spearman's Rank correlation was used for determining the association of water quality parameters with seasonal and monthly normal rainfall total in view to capture the role of rainfall in controlling such seasonality. The result demonstrates that the temporal change in water quality status forms three specific hydrogeochemical seasons, January to May, June to August, and September to December which are governed by local rainfall pattern. Further observed that geogenic parameters e.g., Turbidity, TFS, TSS etc. completely follow seasonality of rainfall but this straight forward relation is not found for anthropogenic contaminants. Many anthropogenic parameters (e.g., Na+, EC, TA etc.) show significant negative relationship with rainfall while many of them (e.g., BOD, DO, etc.) do show any pattern at all. Since rainfall cannot fully explain the whole complexity, the role of other factors like discharge associated with hydrogeochemical seasons, needs to be evaluated in this context.
